Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

SNAP provides food benefits to eligible individuals and families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food that is essential to their health and well-being.

You are encouraged to apply if you:

  • are struggling to purchase food,
  • are unemployed or work part time,
  • receive Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) or other public assistance payments,
  • are elderly or disabled and live on a small income, or
  • are homeless.

In addition, many legal immigrants and citizen children of undocumented immigrants can receive SNAP benefits if the eligibility requirements are met.

We can help you apply for new SNAP benefits and SNAP recertification!

Applying for SNAP benefits can feel overwhelming for many people. The Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) can make things easier for you by helping with the entire application process from start to finish. CAC is authorized by the State of Maryland, Department of Human Services to provide you with information and to assist you with applying for SNAP benefits and help you through the recertification process.

Click on the button below and fill out the short form requesting assistance. Once you submit your completed form, a Community Worker from CAC will contact you to help you start your SNAP application. Below are a few things needed to apply.

  • Picture Identification (driver's license, passport or other government issued ID).
  • Proof of income for the past 30-days (paystubs or social security award letter or unemployment benefits).
  • Social Security cards for all household members, except for undocumented immigrants applying on behalf of their citizen children.
