The Reverend John W. Holland Humanitarian Award honors the legacy of a lifelong Howard County resident, minister, civil rights leader, and dedicated member of the Community Action Council Board of Directors. Throughout his life, Reverend Holland championed human rights, strengthened his community, and worked tirelessly to create opportunity for those facing barriers. From his leadership of the Howard County branch of the NAACP to his 17 years of service on CAC’s Board, Reverend Holland brought people together to confront inequity, solve problems, and improve the lives of his neighbors. His commitment to service extended across Howard County, including efforts to expand resources and opportunities for older adults, families, and historically underserved communities.
Presented to an individual who carries that spirit forward, the award recognizes exemplary leadership, meaningful community impact, sustained service, and a commitment to CAC’s mission, vision, and values—honoring those who lead through service and inspire others to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors.
